OWH Virtual Card Making Party VCMP
Labor Day Weekend 2012
Operation Write Home doesn’t need much of an excuse to throw a party – - a Virtual Cardmaking Party, that is! To celebrate the 3-day weekend, they planned 10 fun card challenges for us to participate in. Links appeared on OWH Stars and Stamps every few hours, with challenges hosted by various OWH bloggers. Wow! So in between GJ Rockies baseball games, yard and house work and "babysitting" my daughter's precocious boxer, I managed to get a few cards in.
OWH VCMP #1 Our Daily Bread Designs Inspiring Sentiment
To kick off this great party Our Daily Bread Designs challenged us to make a card with a scripture or inspirational sentiment. ODBD a great supporter of OWH, donating every month, the shipping costs toward two boxes of our special, handmade cards to our deployed heroes . I used Carla's card over at Gina K Designs Stamp TV for my inspiration, CASE-ing her beautiful design elements.
OWH VCMP #2 Recipe Challenge
Oh, I love recipes, especially one with only 3 ingredients!
Cherie's Corner of the World gave us the recipe: 1 image, 2 patterned papers and 3 words. I counted the two puzzle pieces as one image, 'cause two halves make a whole, don't you agree?
OWH VCMP #3 Snowflakes But Not Christmas with VCMP #9 Forgotten Tool
Winter is fast upon us with the next challenge, creating a card with snowflakes on it without using a Christmas theme. Cindy over at
Cindy Card Co gave us the inspiration. I realized all too soon that I probably wasn't going to get all 10 VCMP cards made during the Labor Day holiday, so I combined a couple into one.
Shannon shared VCMP #9, challenging us to create a card with a long neglected tool. Mine is my Spellbinder dies, especially the Label ones. The dies always seem to slow me down!
OWH VCMP #4 Triple Time Stamping Technique
The next challenge offered up a new technique (at least to me), Triple Time Stamping. I'd seen this around Pinterest and OWH and was eager to try. I had just one problem, I don't own any large stamps that are used in this technique. I did however have plenty of those larger print DSP that come with the big packs of seasonal paper. Using
Donna's great tutorial, I used 3 sheets of the same paper overlapping to make my first cuts, then downsized from there.
OWH VCMP #6 and Sketch #136
This challenge incorporated the weekly sketch #136 into the weekend fun. Although the deadline for OWH Halloween cards have come and gone, it's never too late to create one more for personal use! I love to mat all my DSP papers, so I ran out of room at the bottom for the sentiment, so I went to plan B. I think I like it better!
The weekend came to an end faster than I could create, so alas, I'll probably never make it through the rest of the VCMP challenges. Thanks OWH, it was fun!
